Below is a list of reasons why we should
be concerned about OUR City and about OUR State:
Louisiana, as of November 30, 2014, has 6,474 living AIDS cases and 14,107 living HIV cases. (Increase from
last year: 700 new AIDS and 1,086 new HIV cases)
Baton Rouge continues to rank number one in the state of Louisiana as the city with highest rate of AIDS
When it comes down
to HIV infections, AIDS cases and other STD rates, Baton Rouge ranks from 5-15 on national scale of metropolitan areas.
In the Baton Rouge Region, 1,312 people are living with an
AIDS diagnosis and 3,032 people are living with an HIV infection as of November 30, 2002. (Increase from last year: 200 new
AIDS cases and 296 HIV cases)
the Baton Rouge Region, ages 13-39 make up 52% of the individuals living with HIV and 44% of the living AIDS cases. However,
the number one age group on a national, state and local level has increased to the age of 40-44.
Heterosexual activity continues to make up the number one route
of infection for women in Louisiana and in the Baton Rouge Region.
